Start The New Year Right

5 Ways to Create a Happy, Healthy 2021

By Helen Bryant, Publisher - Macaroni Kid Louisville Central & Louisville SW December 26, 2020

2020 was a crazy and challenging year for everyone.  From social distancing, home schooling, web calls, online parties, cancellation of events, limited travel and travel restrictions just to name a few.   I, like most people,  am holding my breath on what 2021 will bring.  But I am optimistic that it will be a lot better just by creating my own joy, happiness and self love.

Here are 5 things to think about to create a little more happiness in our lives in the New Year.

SMILE
  • A smile is contagious and so is the twinkle in your eyes when wearing a mask.  Keep smiling under the mask because people can see it and is elevates your own mood.
  • While on Zoom meetings and calls, smile.  Those who can see you on video can see it, those on audio will be able to hear it in your voice.
GIVE
  • Give what you can to your local charities.  From cash to the items you no longer need or use.  The benefit is you feel better helping someone else in need.
  • Give compliments freely.  It will make you feel good and lift the spirits of the person receiving the compliment.
  • Give people the benefit of the doubt.  You do not know what is truly going on with them that day.  Their bad mood may be completely unrelated to the situation or task at hand.
  • Give-up your grudges.  Start the New Year with a clean slate and giving up the emotional baggage that is weighing you down.
LOVE
  • Love yourself.
  • Love you family and friends.
  • Love your neighbor.
  • Love is what the winter Holiday season is all about. Start the New Year on a loving note.
Be Bright This New Year
  • Bring out your inner child and allow yourself to be excited for the New Year.  New Beginnings.  New Start!
  • Remember to sing out loud, dance like no one is looking, and try not to take things too seriously.
  • Joy is infectious.
Get Swept Up In the Spirit of the New Year
  • Stay up and watch the New Years Eve Shows.
  • Cozy up to a fire on in a blanket with a good book.
  • Enjoy your favorite drinks.
  • Reach out to those you have not spoken to or seen in the last year.
