Every spring, parents everywhere start thinking and searching on what to do and plan with the kiddos during the summer months when school is out. There is the tour of all of the local attractions, possibly time with family, maybe a summer vacation, but when summer really begins, most of the kiddos look forward to the time off from school, some time to enjoy the hot weather and summer camp!
But summer camp is not just a place to send kids while school is out. It is an educational experience from all levels, from developing social skills to making new friends, it is learning a new craft or hobby, developing the artistic talent within them, learning a new sport and so much more!
Choosing the right camp for your child is important. As a parent, you want to find the experiences that will create lasting fun memories as well as develop the skills within your child. According to my boys (ages 11 and 8) who have attended various summer camps over the years, here are a few reasons why they love summer camp:
- meeting and making new friends
- developing and learning a new skill
- developing a sense of independence
- completing a week as an achievement;
- finding and developing new goals
- winning awards
- food (yes - one of the camps they attended had amazing food)
- having fun!
